The Lineup

  • Elemeno P to headline TechFest 2009
  • Elemeno P

Don’t miss out! See one of New Zealand’s biggest and most successful bands head up the evening and perform live at TechFest.

Since 2002 when founding members Dave Gibson and Justyn Pilbrow turned up on the steps of Universal asking for a record deal, the band has gone from strength to strength.

Seven years later we have the stats - seventy thousand records sold, a Tui for Best Group, 10 hit singles, massive TV syncs for KFC and Telecom, a prestigious Silver Scroll nomination and hundreds of gigs nationally and internationally (including the prestigious SXSW in Austin, and a UK tour with Steriogram).

Get ready to welcome Dave Gibson, Justyn Pilbrow, Scotty Pearson and Lana Purkis live on stage!

  • Katchafire at TechFest
  • Katchafire

Our support band Katchafire has achieved phenomenal success over the last few years, emerging two years ago as the hardest working band in the country.

Their astonishing debut album, Revival, sold in excess of 30,000 copies (double platinum) and they scored massive hits with songs like Giddy Up, the biggest selling single of 2002.

Since then they have enjoyed continued success and toured the world. The all Maori reggae band from Hamilton is now working on their third album due out in September.

  • Ben Hurley Comedian to headline TechFest 2009
  • Ben Hurley

Your chance to see NZ's latest comedy sensation in action!

Ben is certainly a worthy, credible and always hilarious addition to this years TechFest lineup.

In 2008 Ben performed his show “BOOM!” at the NZ International Comedy Festival in Auckland along with the Dunedin Fringe, and subsequently won the Comedy Festival’s prestigious Fred Award for Comedic Excellence. This along with his 2004 Billy T Award and NZ Comedy Guild Best Male Comedian is something he is quite rightly, very proud of.

Ben has conquered both UK crowds, NZ crowds and reviewers alike to such an extent that he was invited to co-star in a radio series with a giant of UK comedy, Andy Parsons, and at the end of 2008 was asked to tour with Irish comedic megastar Ed Byrne. This was a gruelling three month tour of Britain and Ireland which has enhanced Ben’s reputation with audiences, winning him new fans and brought about the possibility of staging his own tour there later in 2009.

  • Oscar Kightley at TechFest
  • Oscar Kightley

Oscar formed the comedy group "Naked Samoans", which took the country by storm with its critically acclaimed performances and his latest claim to fame is for his part on “bro'town”.

  • The Septembers at TechFest NZ

Since forming in 2007, The Septembers have built a reputation as an electrifying live band, creating their own kind of romantic rock’n’roll, with a sound veering from searing acoustic melodies to stomping power pop!

Currently gaining rave reviews for their recently released debut album, which was produced by the man responsible for albums from The Verve, Blur and Supergrass, Rico Petrillo! The Septembers set will be one to watch for the next big thing in NZ music...
